Cheryl Burke wins custody of French bulldog after finalizing divorce from Matthew

Cheryl Burke has reportedly won custody of her French bulldog Ysabella, bringing her nasty divorce from ex-husband Matthew Lawrence to a close.

The Dancing with the Stars pro, 38, declared in October that the couple was ‘going to trial,’ however it appears that the 42-year-old child star has instead relinquished his rights to the Frenchie.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Cheryl has been awarded full ownership of Ysabella, leaving Lawrence to focus on his new relationship with Chilli from TLC.

Lawrence – whose most memorable role is the teenage son of Robin Williams in 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire – has agreed to give up ‘all docs/data pertaining to Ysabella,’ according to TMZ.

He has also agreed to give up the title of ‘pet parent’ for Ysabella’s microchip service, Home Again.

Mathew is already in a new relationship with Chilli from TLC – born Rozonda Thomas, 51.

A rep for the No Scrubs singer told TMZ earlier this month that she and Lawrence entered into an ‘exclusive relationship’ at the start of the holiday season.

The couple went Instagram official at the end of December, posting a video of them dancing to Take on Me.

Cheryl initially filed for Divorce from Mathew on February 18th, saying the couple had separated January 7th 2022.

In September, Burke and Lawrence reached an accord to split their two properties and waive spousal support on both sides, as denoted in their premarital agreement.

Lawrence and Burke first met in 2006 when his brother, Joey Lawrence, 46, participated on Dancing with the Stars.

The tumultuous couple dated for one year, broke up, then rekindled their relationship in 2017 – announcing their engagement the following year and marrying in 2019.

Speaking on her iHeart podcast Burke in the Game in October, Cheryl said that she and Mathew were destined to go to court over custody of Ysabella.

‘I’m still just really hurt by the whole situation,’ the San Francisco-born beauty said at the time.

Cheryl went on to add that while their divorce was finalized, ‘It’s still not over because we have to maybe go to trial – well, we are going to go to trial, unless [Lawrence] all of the sudden calls it off.’

‘That’s my dog,’ Burke declared. ‘Ysabella is my daughter – I’m a dog mom, and that’s it. I couldn’t even imagine my life – I mean, I could just cry right now – but I couldn’t imagine my life without her.’

Burke opened up about her state of mind amid the bitter split in March of last year, posting a statement to Instagram.

She began: ‘I’ve realized that whenever I am at a point in my life where I have some big emotions to process, the best thing for me to do is to spend some time alone – other than being with [my dog] Ysa of course, but I truly feel like she is a part of me, so she doesn’t count.’

”If I’m being honest,’ confessed Cheryl, ‘really feeling my feelings is new to me.’

Burke went on to say that she’s spent her ‘entire life up to this point trying to numb’ her feelings, and she’s ‘learning that really going through them is A LOT harder.’

She added: ‘I guess all of that is to say, to truly experience my feelings, whatever they may be, being alone for a few days has been the best thing for me. I would highly encourage anyone else out there to try it and not feel guilty for needing that space.’
